The Gray Dove Wedding Venue is probably the place I shoot at the most, but Madison and Andrew’s wedding was unforgettable. Unlike most days I am there which are generally bright and sunny, this was probably the hardest rain I have ever experienced on a couple’s big day, but that did not dampen the atmosphere. First, fortunately The Gray Dove is one of those places that have tons of gorgeous photography spots, even in the rain. Located in Ooltewah, TN, this venue is a mix of rustic, industrial, and romantic. With a modernized barn, a large pavilion, and two incredible suites for the bride and groom, even with a downpour, we were able to find places to keep the bridal party dry while getting great pictures.
Second, the rain actually proved to be a blessing. Because the Gray Dove is one that I shoot at so much, I can often find myself shooting in my comfort spots. Due to the rain, we were limited on time, locations, etc. This allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and take pictures at spots I’ve never shot at before, making for some of my favorite photos of all-time.
The biggest reason, though, why this day was so easy and beautiful despite the weather was the couple and the bridal party. First, the bride and her girls were such great sports about running out for a few pictures, running inside, and running back out again. They were fun, flexible, and a blast to work with. Then, Andrew and Madison together were up for whatever! Even with the ground wet and a little drizzly, they weren’t worried about getting outside for a some of my all-time favorite couple portraits. I loved how Andrew was so sweet and concerned about Madison’s dress and shoes, and Madison was ready to jump in and take pictures regardless. This couple was a perfect example of how to act when it rains: go with the flow, be up for anything, and watch the images make themselves. I think the best sign that these two truly belong together was it rained for the entire ceremony, family formals, and bridal party. But as soon as we were ready for portraits of just the two of them, the skies cleared. Enjoy this couple’s rainy, remarkable wedding.
